How has your experience in the MS Health Care Transformation program changed how you approach your work?

It has been exciting to implement what we are learning in "real-time", as my organization is aiming to adopt a VBHC framework. We are building a new hospital and academic health science centre, which is an amazing opportunity not just for new bricks and mortar but for new ideas and innovation. This program has provided a lens and tools (as well as confidence) to build capacity for VBHC and develop new models of care at home.

The MSHCT Class of 2023 begins on August 16. Do you have any advice to help them gain as much as possible from the year-long program?

Read Redefining Health Care and other background material prior to starting so you can hit the ground running. It has been a pleasure to collaborate and discuss ideas with my classmates as we share this journey. Come with an open mind!

What was the most distinct aspect of the program from your experience?

I really enjoy the diversity of perspectives represented in the class. I am often surrounded by other physicians and clinicians, so discussing ideas with people from business, or other backgrounds is very informative and eye-opening.

What types of professionals do you think would benefit most from the MS in Health Care Transformation program?

I came to this program with a lot of experience under my belt and find it very invigorating to learn new concepts. It is gratifying to be able to implement many of the ideas into our clinical programs. On the other hand, I wish I had this skill set and knowledge base early on in my career!
