Nurses and Value in Health Care

Outcomes Program Officer Kathleen Carberry, RN, MPH, delivered a thought-provoking lecture, “Creating Value in Health Care and the Critical Role that Nurses Play,” at the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses’ state conference on May 23. The conference offered the latest in women’s health, obstetrics, and neonatal nursing.

VI and UAGM

When travel restrictions due to the pandemic hit, Prof. Scott Wallace, Director of Education Prof. Alice Andrews, and Instructional Technology Manager Kasey Ford converted an in-person three-day executive education program on value-based health care at the Universidad Ana G. Méndez to an online format using the Moodle learning platform. Approximately 50 students and preceptors in the UAGM program to train advanced practice nurses will go through the executive education program in June 2020.

A Framework for Value-Base Care

Prof. Elizbeth Teisberg, Prof. Scott Wallace, and Course and Content Specialist Sarah O’Hara recently wrote an article for Academic Medicine on defining and implementing value-based health care.

High-Value Care in Europe

EIT Health, an organization that promotes entrepreneurship and innovation in healthy living and active aging, recently published a report on implementing value-based health care in Europe. Value Institute faculty member Dr. Christina Åkerman co-chaired the advisory committee for the report and Prof. Scott Wallace was a special contributor.

Value-Based Musculoskeletal Care

Prof. Elizabeth Teisberg was a guest speaker at the AAOS Presidential Symposium on May 27. The event focused on the future of value-based musculoskeletal care and attendees explored and discussed timely concepts and practical steps to thrive in this new arena, where quality, value, and outcomes are at the forefront.

VALUE INSTITUTE SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS

Outcomes-Based Health Care

Dr. Christina Åkerman will give an introductory presentation on outcomes-based health care for the Treatment Outcomes international conference on June 18. The event, which is organized under the patronage of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, will host leading experts in the field of monitoring treatment outcomes and transforming the health systems towards validating quality of care for patients.

Leadership Institute

Prof. Elizabeth Teisberg will be the keynote speaker at the 2020 Health Communication Leadership Institute on June 18. In this workshop, current and aspiring health communication leaders will evaluate their leadership practices through the Leadership Practices Inventory and explore strategies and best practices for leadership, management, and innovation.
